St Isabel Women’s Guild Dissolved after 41+ Years

Ladies of the Guild:
Several members of our Women’s Guild received the message below from Father Ed Martin, Parish Administrator at St. Isabel’s, on Friday, November 1 st.   Your Guild Board feels a responsibility to assure that ALL members of our group are aware of the contents of Father Martin’s letter.   We will share a copy of our response to Father Martin with all of you shortly.

Sincerely,
Your Women’s Guild Board

A NOTE FROM Fr. Ed
Dear Members of St. Isabel Guild

–I reviewed your (revised 2016) “BYLAWS” Article II Mission Statement:  the guild works in an ecumenical spirit on service and social project that reach beyond St. Isabel.
–My assessment of St. Isabel parish over the past 30 days is that the parish and parishioners need healing, and with the help of Holy Spirit move forward in Jesus’ name.
–The last three years have been difficult for many.  I am not looking to move outward in an ecumenical or interfaith (Jewish or Muslim tradition), but to the Catholic community of St. Isabel.
–Your absence as leaders from the parish on Sundays is known by parishioners.  Your allegiance to your former pastor and your disdain of our Bishop is known through the letters of the PFJ.
–Your lack of respect for the parochial vicar is confirmed in your letters to the Bishop and in the PFJ.
–You continue to look for your own authority and direction.
–Therefore, and effective immediately, the Woman’s(sic) Guild is dissolved and is no longer an authorized organization of St. Isabel’s Parish.
Fr. Ed Martin

  1. i WAS ABLE TO SEND OUT A FLYER IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD HERE (31 CONDOS) AND TELL PEOPLE ABOUT A WOMAN MARINE VETERAN (MARY ANN MERRITT) WHO EVERY YEAR (TWICE A YEAR) DOES SEND ITEMS NEEDED AND APPRECIATED BY TROOPS AWAY FROM HOME OR IN VETERANS HOSPITALS AT HOLIDAY TIME ETC- SHE CAN ONLY DO IT TWICE A YEAR NOW AS IT IS EXPENSIVE TO MAIL THOSE BOXES—-AND ON NOVEMBER 16TH SHE GOES TO A BUILDING IN ROMEO MICHIGAN AND MAILS AND PACKS THOSE INTO BOXES TO BE SENT OUT TO TROOPS………. I WANT YOU TO KNOW THAT AS A WOMAN WHO LIKES TO DO ECUMENICAL OUTREACH TYPE THINGS – AS I KNOW THE ST ISABEL GUILD ALSO DOES — THIS EFFORT IS OPEN TO ANYONE………….. THE ITEMS HAVE TO BE THERE ON THE 16TH..WE JUST TAKE THEM TO THE MASONIC BUILDING IN ROMEO ON THAT DAY AND SHE MAILS THEM RIGHT FROM THE BUILDING AS THE POST OFFICE IS ACROSS THE STREET FROM WHERE SHE PACKS AND SENDS THAT SAME DAY—-i WILL BE HAPPY TO DELIVER ANY LITTLE THING YOU MIGHT LIKE TO SEND TO THE TROOPS — SHE MENTIONED LITTLE HAND CREAMS OR SUCH ITEMS .
MAYBE ONE OR TWO OF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO SOMETHING FOR THE TROOPS IN YOUR AREA IF YOU CAN FIND SUCH A PLACE.?

THANKS—- I KNOW YOU ARE ALL EAGER TO WORK TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE! KEEP THAT GOOD SPIRIT!!!!!!!!!!
    GOD BLESS EVERYONE!

  2. I just read the letter from, father Ed Martin;i am amazed that a decision to disban the womens guild was made without( as far as I know) meeting with any of the membership
this parish as Father Martin stated needs healing ;that will take time,i just don’t see how disbanding any organization associated with St Isabels without dialogue contributes to healing.
they flourished for 41 years ;hence I suspect accomplished a great deal;now they with the stroke of a pen,are gone.
    last,i feel anyone associated with St Isabels has the right to feel however thy choose regarding our Bishop;and still attend mass,receive the Eucharist etc;
I am deeply saddened that a church I have attended for 35 years since Bishop Nevens was in charge has come to be so divided .
and I pray to almighty GOD that the healing of all begins,NOW !
