Weekly Prayers of the Faithful

Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, June 11, 2023

Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, June 11, 2023

On this day, we celebrate the life-giving sacrament of Jesus’ body and blood. We offer our petitions to the Father who showed his love for us by sending his Son into the world.

  1. That the real presence of Jesus in the sacrament of the Eucharist will move all who receive his body and blood to carry him and his message to a world hungering for true food and true drink.  We pray to the Lord.
  2. That world leaders will discern the guidance of the Lord who brought his people from a land of slavery, through a vast and terrible desert, and cared for them with water and manna so that they may find freedom, safety, and food for those who suffer.  We pray to the Lord.
  3. That Pope Francis will receive wise medical treatment and recover quickly from his surgery so that he may continue to serve the Church and guide us in our lives of faith.  We pray to the Lord.
  4. That the catastrophic breach of the dam in Ukraine that has deprived thousands of people of their homes, drinking water, and livelihoods will spark universal determination to bring an end to this war and all wars.  We pray to the Lord.
  5. That nations of the world will take joint action to avert widespread starvation due to the flooding of grain fields in Ukraine.  We pray to the Lord.
  6. That the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops meeting in Orlando this week will be open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit so that the leadership they provide will best serve all people.  We pray to the Lord.
  7. That we will never accept as routine the succession of stories of human misery due to violence in the streets, the ravages of war, and the impact of environmental disasters but will live in ways that suggest the kingdom of God on Earth is possible.  We pray to the Lord.
  8. That children who suffer from neglect, war, and exploitation, will grow up to be instruments of peace and security in the world and be able to forgive those who have abused them.  We pray to the Lord.
  9. That we may avoid selfishness and divisions in our Christian community which threatens the faithful in many parts of the world.[1]  We pray to the Lord.
  10. That those who are nearing death may receive Viaticum as food for the journey that strengthens them through knowledge that Jesus is truly with them.  We pray to the Lord.
  11. That those who have died having eaten the bread that came down from heaven will be raised on the last day and live forever.  We pray to the Lord.

O God, on this day of joy and thanksgiving, we offer our gratitude for the real presence of your Son in the Eucharist, the sign of your love which inspires us to offer our prayers to you confident that you will hear and answer all our needs. Amen.
