Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, August 6, 2023
We come to the Father with Peter, James, and John asking that we may come to see Jesus as he is and know his presence in our lives.
- That in the face of conflicts, injustices, and lack of hope that are crippling the world today, the Church may find new ways to go forward, fueling hope for the future and sailing boldly into the sea of evangelization and mission.[1] We pray to the Lord.
- That politicians, generals, and extremists who place their own lust for power above the needs of the people of their nations and of the world will have transfiguration experiences that enable them to change their view of what is good. We pray to the Lord.
- That bishops and Church leaders may be renewed and not become “administrators of the sacred” who are bored and living their positions as a “kind of job” not making room for the “repeated call of Jesus.”1 We pray to the Lord.
- That we may know the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, not as a cleverly devised myth, but as a lamp shining in a dark place, the morning star rising in our hearts. We pray to the Lord.
- That we may listen to Jesus, the beloved Son who is well pleased by his Father. We pray to the Lord.
- That when we feel the touch of the Lord in our lives, may we be willing to rise, unafraid to do his will. We pray to the Lord.
- That we may join with those who set out to participate in World Youth Day by facing our lives as a journey to be traveled, making each day a new segment.[2] We pray to the Lord.
- That encounters with refugees and the outcast will be marked with a true greeting in which words of full welcome and full sharing are exchanged.2 We pray to the Lord.
- That those who are sick and suffering in the extreme heat of summer will find cool places of rest where they are cared for and able to recover. We pray to the Lord.
- That those who died as a result of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima on this date in 1945 and all who have been killed in the attacks of war will enjoy the peace of heaven for all eternity and serve as reminders of the need to avoid conflicts between nations. We pray to the Lord.
God, our Father, Most High over all the Earth, we ask that you hear our pleas, offered in faith, and answer all our needs. We make these prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
