Twenty-Third Sunday of Ordinary Time, September 10, 2023
We come to the Father with our prayers asking that we might be agents of reconciliation, not judging others but seeking understanding and peace.
- That Pope Francis and all who are prayerfully preparing to participate in next month’s Synod will be blessed with wisdom, an openness to the promptings of the Spirit, and humility as they seek the good of all God’s people. We pray to the Lord.
- That world leaders will seek alliances that forestall the evils of war and that are built on love of all humanity and all of God’s creation. We pray to the Lord.
- That we may “strive to be just in every situation, to live according to [God’s] laws, and thus enable life to flourish.”[1] We pray to the Lord.
- That we will renew our relationship with creation so that we no longer see it as an object to be exploited but cherish it instead as a sacred gift from our Creator.1 We pray to the Lord.
- That as we recall the tragic events of September 11, we will also contemplate the challenge to fulfill the law of God by loving our neighbors as ourselves. We pray to the Lord.
- That as we gather together in prayer on this day in the name of Jesus, we will recognize him in our midst and commit ourselves to seeking reconciliation with those who have sinned against us. We pray to the Lord.
- That those who persecute others for their faith will be won over by words and actions that identify the fault and lead to repentance and mutual acceptance. We pray to the Lord.
- That the legal system of our country will function wisely and with impartiality that upholds the law and finds justice for all individuals. We pray to the Lord.
- That those who are injured or suffering from the hurricanes, cyclones, fires, floods, and droughts of this season will find refuge and consolation from good neighbors and compassionate assistance. We pray to the Lord.
- That those battling cancer will be uplifted by good friends and be resolute in enjoying the gift of life as best they can. We pray to the Lord.
- That those who during their time on Earth worked to build peace in families, communities, in the Church, and throughout society will be granted peace by their heavenly Father for all eternity. We pray to the Lord.
O God, we offer these petitions asking that we may hear your voice so that our hearts will not be hardened but may overflow with love for the world in which we live. We make our prayers together through Christ our Lord. Amen.
