Weekly Prayers of the Faithful

Twenty-Fifth Sunday of Ordinary Time, September 24, 2023

Twenty-Fifth Sunday of Ordinary Time, September 24, 2023

We offer our prayers to the Father, seeking the Lord where he may be found, calling to him while he is near.

  1. That on this World Refugee and Migration Sunday, we who are the Church will commit ourselves to kindness and compassion for those who suffer and must make the difficult decision to leave their homelands.   We pray to the Lord.
  2. That world leaders will seek peace, the welfare of the citizens of their nations, and the use of resources in ways that benefit humanity so that people may choose to remain in their homes and live in peace, security, and joy.  We pray to the Lord.
  3. That those who engage in religious persecution will forsake their ways and turn to the Lord for mercy, to our God who is generous in forgiving.  We pray to the Lord.
  4. That we may have the grace to conduct ourselves in a way worthy of the gospel of Christ.  We pray to the Lord.
  5. That we may not judge our faithfulness in comparison to others but may seek only God’s mercy and justice as we strive to bring all to Jesus.  We pray to the Lord.
  6. That we will not be envious of God’s generosity to anyone but will be grateful for his generosity to us.  We pray to the Lord.
  7. That the meeting of the United Nations General Assembly will lead to renewed determination to establish peace, security, and mutual respect for all nations.  We pray to the Lord.
  8. That starvation which threatens millions in Nigeria, Somalia, South Sudan, and Yemen will be mitigated by an end of armed conflict and international efforts to provide needed food.  We pray to the Lord.
  9. That those undergoing surgery and battling serious illnesses will not lose heart but will be lifted up and encouraged by the support of friends and faith in God’s love.  We pray to the Lord.
  10. That those who whose deaths we mourn will enjoy new and eternal life with Christ in heaven.  We pray to the Lord.

O God, may we always recognize your generosity in answering all our prayers knowing that you are kind, merciful, and just in all your dealings.  We make our prayer through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
