Thirty-Second Sunday of Ordinary Time, November 12, 2023
We offer our prayers to the Father, seeking wisdom to know his will and to act with faith in this turbulent world.
- That the bishops of the United States gathering for their General Assembly in Baltimore this week will watch for wisdom at dawn, be worthy of her, and be inspired by her to act with prudence. We pray to the Lord.
- That leaders of communities engaged in violence and hatred will understand that the actions they take today will shape the perceptions and values of future generations and will embrace the responsibility to guide those they serve toward a path of peace and coexistence.[1] We pray to the Lord.
- That voices of all people will speak out for peace, for hope, and for an end of killing and cry out with determination for building bridges so that the future may be built on equality, partnership, and peace.[2] We pray to the Lord.
- That as we observe Veterans Day and honor the brave men and women who have served in the military or given their lives so that we might live in peace, we will better understand the assertion of Pope Francis, “Wars are always a defeat. Always.”[3] We pray to the Lord.
- That we will not be foolish in our use of oil but will be wise in using all the earth’s resources with gratitude and in ways that give light to the presence of the Lord among us. We pray to the Lord.
- That we will stay awake, not submitting to complacency, living in ways that reflect love of God and love of neighbor until the day and the hour come for our entry into eternal life. We pray to the Lord.
- That as Pope Francis fulfills his mission, may he continue to accompany the flock entrusted to him with the help of the Holy Spirit.[4] We pray to the Lord.
- That those faced with persecution, who endure poverty, or who quietly struggle with the challenges of their lives will not be forgotten or overlooked because of the loud din of the weapons of war that seek all attention. We pray to the Lord.
- That the lives of those who have been weakened by age, illness, or injury will be respected and nurtured through knowledge that each stage of life is a gift from God. We pray to the Lord.
- That we may not grieve like those who have no hope for those who have fallen asleep because of our belief that God, through Jesus, will bring with him those who have died. We pray to the Lord.
O God, may the love we have for your resplendent and unfading wisdom enable us to know and understand your answers to our pleas. We make our prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen.
