Weekly Prayers of the Faithful

Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time, February 11, 2024

Sixth Sunday of Ordinary Time, February 11, 2024

We offer our weaknesses and failings to the Father confident that we can be healed.

  1. That the Church will understand our call to be a welcoming presence in the world for those disfigured by the blotches of sin who are in need of the opportunity to kneel before Jesus and beg forgiveness.  We pray to the Lord.
  2. That the world will realize the ravages and destruction of war are a terrible leprosy inflicted on the face of the Earth and turn to Jesus so that we might be made clean.  We pray to the Lord.
  3. That we may be imitators of Paul, an imitator Christ, as we strive not for our own benefit but for the benefit of many so that they may be saved. We pray to the Lord.
  4. That our encounters with Jesus may fill us with the enthusiasm of the leper-made-clean so that we will proclaim Jesus’ power to heal us from our ills by the way that we share our lives with others.  We pray to the Lord.
  5. That we may prepare our minds and hearts to observe Lent, so that whether we fast or abstain, or whatever we do will be done for the glory of God.  We pray to the Lord.
  6. That in observance of both the World Day of the Sick and World Marriage Day we will meditate on their shared basis that “Our lives, reflecting the image of the Trinity, are meant to attain fulfillment through a network of relationships, friendships, and love, both given and received.”[1]  We pray to the Lord.
  7. That we will care for the sick and elderly so that they are not left in solitude or abandoned, ignored as no longer being needed, or deprived of the joy of love that comes from human interactions.[2]  We pray to the Lord.
  8. That married couples might reflect the union of Christ with his Church with a bond of peace strengthened by the gift of grace.[3]  We pray to the Lord.
  9. That devotion to our Blessed Mother, Our Lady of Lourdes, and to the rosary may bring peace to our families, our communities, and to the world.  We pray to the Lord.
  10. That those cultures celebrating the Lunar New Year this weekend will be blessed with joy as families gather together to exchange greetings and spend time together.  We pray to the Lord.
  11. That the sick, the captives, the wounded, and the poor who are unable to access needed medical care, supplies, or food, will be supported by prayers and by demands for justice that are not silenced by weapons, fear, or apathy.  We pray to the Lord.
  12. That those who have died in isolation as outcasts of society or persons declared to be unclean will be restored to new life with all the saints and angels in the eternal joy of heaven.  We pray to the Lord.

Almighty God, we stand before you knowing that you will to heal us and make us clean.  May we seek that healing, remove barriers that divide us, and proclaim your love for all people to a broken world.  We make these prayers through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
