Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, June 30, 2024
We come to the Father with our prayers asking to be freed from what restricts us from living fully in his love.
- That the Church will be an agent of healing for those who suffer from physical, psychological, or spiritual ailments as it reaches out with the hand of Jesus to draw all people to faith. We pray to the Lord.
- That nations and their leaders may know that long-festering hatred or distrust of neighbors cannot be overcome by bloodshed but requires humble reaching out in faith so that healing may take place through mutual respect and peaceful dialogue. We pray to the Lord.
- That recognition of the fact that the scourge of drug abuse impoverishes communities, produces violence, and sows suffering and death will inspire society as a whole to act with courage to end the production and trafficking of drugs.[1] We pray to the Lord.
- That all people will enjoy freedom of conscience and religion so that each person is fully free to make his or her religious choices; and that all believers will cultivate peace in mutual respect and friendship.[2] We pray to the Lord.
- That parents whose children are ill and who plead earnestly in faith, as did Jairus, for healing will receive needed medical care, spiritual support, and understanding that the Lord cares deeply for them in their time of need. We pray to the Lord.
- That as Jesus tenderly took the hand of the little girl as he healed her, may we reach out to children suffering from illness, hunger, and poverty so that they may know God’s love for them and look forward with hope for the future. We pray to the Lord.
- That women who suffer from chronic pain and illness at the hands of many doctors will not be overlooked by those who press in with their own agendas but will find relief from their agony and distress through prayer and inspired health care. We pray to the Lord.
- That the atrocities of war will be ended by international outrage that will bring Palestinians, Israelis, Ukrainians, Russians, and warring factions throughout the world to seek resolution of their differences not based on mutual destruction. We pray to the Lord.
- That in the trials of our lives, we may have the humble faith to reach out and touch the hem of Jesus knowing that with him, we will overcome all evil. We pray to the Lord.
- That those battling cancer and other serious illnesses will hear the voice of Jesus encouraging them, “Do not be afraid; just have faith,” and will be able to struggle with confident and quiet peace. We pray to the Lord.
- That those who have died from weather extremes in their communities, on pilgrimage, or in serving others may know the salvation of Jesus who provides astounding love to all. We pray to the Lord.
God our Father, may we have the humility of Jairus and the woman with the hemorrhages who recognized their dependence on Jesus despite their unworthiness. May Jesus always be present in our lives calling us to get up when we fall so that we may live in faith and hope, and with love. We make these prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen.
