Weekly Prayers of the Faithful

Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, July 14, 2024

Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, July 14, 2024

Hearing that Amos and the apostles embraced their call to be emissaries of faith in God, we turn to the Father asking for the grace to respond to his call to us with humility and hope.

  1. That our faith in Christ may gather into a single family people of various races and cultures, strongly uniting us not for political motives but in virtue of the Church’s preaching of love, brotherhood, peace, and justice.[1]  We pray to the Lord.
  2. That political instabilities in this world will be mitigated by leaders motivated by a desire to serve their communities and nations rather than by a lust for power over people and lands.  We pray to the Lord.
  3. That the voices of prophets drawn from all walks of life may reach our ears, inspire our minds, and touch our hearts.  We pray to the Lord.
  4. That the example of the apostles sent on their journey with nothing but faith in God’s care for them will inspire us to turn our faith away from food or sacks or money in our belts.  We pray to the Lord.
  5. That husbands and wives, joined together two by two and sent forth into the world, will be examples of Jesus love to their families and friends.  We pray to the Lord.
  6. That the attacks on schools and hospitals in Ukraine and Gaza will end immediately and be universally condemned as barbaric assaults on human life that the world will not and cannot endure.  We pray to the Lord.
  7. That famine which threatens so many due to war, displacement, and drought will be mitigated by bountiful harvests and determined, generous efforts to distribute food to those in need.  We pray to the Lord.
  8. That we may welcome the words of repentance preached in the Gospels so that the dust on the feet of those he has sent to teach us may not be shaken off in testimony against us.  We pray to the Lord.
  9. That those who are ill may be anointed with the oil of the sick that brings them forgiveness, healing, comfort, and hope.  We pray to the Lord.
  10. That those who have died alone and discarded may be welcomed joyfully into the community of saints for all eternity.  We pray to the Lord.

O God we know that you call us to be people of faith who live your Word.  May your answer to our prayers lead us to opportunities to spread that Word through our lives and increase our faith in your enduring presence.  We make our prayer through Christ our Lord.   Amen.
