Weekly Prayers of the Faithful

22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time, September 1, 2024

22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time, September 1, 2024

We ask the Father to free us from evils that come from within that we may seek the Lord with our minds and our hearts.

  1. That Pope Francis may be blessed with physical health, spiritual wisdom, and warm receptions as he carries the message of the Gospels on his apostolic visit to the people of Asia and Oceana. We pray to the Lord.
  2. That the people of Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, and Timor-Leste will be inspired by Pope Francis’ message of inter-religious dialog, ethnic harmony, and care for creation to promote fraternity and peace in their communities and in the world.  We pray to the Lord.
  3. That we may humbly welcome the Word of God that has been planted in us and not delude ourselves by being only hearers and not doers.  We pray to the Lord.
  4. That we will be generous in caring for orphans, widows, the poor, and those who are afflicted so that we will be unstained by the world. We pray to the Lord.
  5. That we will not be quick to declare others as unclean or unworthy but will strive to keep our own hearts from evil that separates us from God.  We pray to the Lord.
  6. That those seeking employment will be successful in their quests and find jobs that provide them with adequate resources, satisfaction, and opportunities to help others.  We pray to the Lord.
  7. That we will be grateful for and support all those who labor in jobs that maintain our public places and services, ensure that we have food, and are indispensable to the peaceful and enjoyable functioning of our communities.  We pray to the Lord.
  8. That all whose labors are overlooked on Earth will be satisfied with their contributions and know that they are instruments of God’s love for all humanity.  We pray to the Lord.
  9. That on this World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation we will renew our determination to “hope and act with creation” so that future generations may enjoy the abundance of beauty, resources, and diversity with which the Earth has been blessed.  We pray to the Lord.
  10. That we may observe and promote the teachings of the Church on the sanctity of life and give evidence of its wisdom and intelligence to those who do not understand life as a precious gift to be cared for in all its stages.  We pray to the Lord.
  11. That those who are injured in mind, body, or spirit because of the trauma of war and those who place their own lives in jeopardy to care for them will turn to the Lord and be given grace, hope, and fortitude. We pray to the Lord.
  12. That those who have died will be judged with mercy so that the justice they have done will provide them with life eternal in the presence of the Lord.   We pray to the Lord.

O God, by your answer to our prayers may we be people who live our faith in ways that reveal your love for all mankind. We make these prayers through Christ our Lord.   Amen.
