Weekly Prayers of the Faithful

29th Sunday of Ordinary Time, October 20, 2024

29th Sunday of Ordinary Time, October 20, 2024

We offer our prayers to the Lord seeking wisdom so that we will know his will and become servants of those in need.

  1. That those gathered in Rome for the Synod may hear each other and the voice of the Holy Spirit so that they may discern how the Church can proclaim the Good News effectively in our time and culture.[1]  We pray to the Lord.
  2. That the Church will be a messenger of the need for all people to live together, respecting each other, free from the great fear of those who are different.[2]  We pray to the Lord.
  3. That those being sheltered in Holy Family Parish, the only Catholic parish in Gaza, will be kept safe from harm and receive the food, water, and medical care they need to withstand the upheaval in their lives.  We pray to the Lord.
  4. That the war in the Mideast will end soon so that the people of war-torn nations can begin to rebuild, carry out projects for their mutual good, share their resources, and walk together.[3]  We pray to the Lord.
  5. That we will appreciate differences among people, recognizing that the ideal of life is not to overcome differences such that everyone is the same but to savor the encounter with others because they are different.3  We pray to the Lord.
  6. That in our prayers we will not ask God to do for us whatever we ask; but through prayer may we obtain the grace to do whatever God asks of us.  We pray to the Lord.
  7. That in our interactions with the poor, the marginalized, the despondent, and all we encounter, we may seek not to be served but to offer generous service.  We pray to the Lord.
  8. That this Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month may raise our awareness of the grief and challenges faced by families who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, or the death of an infant so that we may be supportive of those affected.  We pray to the Lord.
  9. That our desire to follow Jesus may enable us to drink the cup that he drank as we accept both the good gifts and difficult challenges of our lives as elements of sharing in the life of Christ.   We pray to the Lord.
  10. That all who are in distress today will overcome their difficulties through grace that offers hope, friends who offer companionship, and belief in the Resurrection that followed the Crucifixion.  We pray to the Lord.
  11. That the mercy of the Lord will be upon all who have died promoting justice and right, filling their corners of the Earth with his kindness.  We pray to the Lord.

O God, may we find in your answer to our prayers the grace, wisdom, faith, and courage to do your will.  We make these prayers through Christ our Lord.   Amen.
