Weekly Prayers of the Faithful

32nd Sunday of Ordinary Time, November 10, 2024

32nd Sunday of Ordinary Time, November 10, 2024

We come to the Father asking that we may have the humility and confidence to seek what is important for our livelihood rather than for our surplus.

  1. That those in the Church who seek long robes, adulation, and seats of honor will experience the renewal of the Holy Spirit and seek to serve the poor, the downtrodden, the rejected, and all who suffer.  We pray to the Lord.
  2. That those people who gather sticks for fuel, with little oil in their jugs, and only a small handful of flour in their jars will find relief from starvation and fear through the generosity of those whose bounty overflows.  We pray to the Lord.
  3. That we may celebrate this Veteran’s Day with gratitude to those “who have served and sacrificed so that we might be free”[1] and “never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”[2]  We pray to the Lord.
  4. That in this time of need in our country, courage will be contagious so that when some bravely take a stand for freedom, compassion, life, and peace, the spines of others will be stiffened.[3]  We pray to the Lord.
  5. That our country will heal from this divisive political season and all people will come together respectfully seeking mutual well-being, determined to make the world a better place for their neighbors, their children, and all generations to come.  We pray to the Lord.
  6. That the people of Valencia and throughout Spain suffering from massive flooding will recover from this disaster through supportive communities and mutual aid that looks to the future with hope.  We pray to the Lord.
  7. That the brutality of the wars in Ukraine, Israel, Gaza, Russia and Myanmar that threatens to draw in more nations and more destructive weapons will be brought to an end by intelligent leaders and citizens who resolutely demand peace and security.  We pray to the Lord.
  8. That in commemorating the 35th anniversary of the destruction of the Berlin wall this weekend, we will work to destroy walls of division among people that promote hatred and mistrust.  We pray to the Lord.
  9. That those who are ill may be granted grace and hope for better days and be sustained by faith, family, and friends.  We pray to the Lord.
  10. That even as we mourn the men and women who have died in the military, as first responders, or in serving those in need, and as we honor those who served and still live among us, we will even more thank God that such people have lived and demonstrated love of their neighbors.[4]  We pray to the Lord.

O God, in our dealings with you and with our neighbors may we strive to emulate the widow who gave generously from her poverty rather than placing her own needs above all others.  We make these prayers through Christ our Lord.   Amen.
