Weekly Prayers of the Faithful

Presentation of the Lord, February 02, 2025

Presentation of the Lord, February 02, 2025

We present ourselves and our petitions to the Father, seeking to know and do his will.

  1. That the Church will be an inviting presence in the world drawing all people to be amazed at the teachings of Jesus.  We pray to the Lord.
  2. That leaders of nations will “work with courage so that hope may be translated into peace for the world [still] immersed in the tragedy of war.”[1]  We pray to the Lard.
  3. That although the divisions in our society seemingly grow deeper, we may strive to avoid evil and work for healing and reconciliation.  We pray to the Lord.
  4. That parents who bring their children to the church for baptism will receive the grace necessary to encourage their children to grow and become strong, filled with wisdom, with the favor of God upon them.  We pray to the Lord.
  5. That Holocaust Remembrance Day, observed earlier this week, will not be just an annual remembrance but will be a day that strengthens resolve that horrific killing, genocide, and wanton violation of human rights existing today must end.  We pray to the Lord.
  6. That as we celebrate the World Day of Consecrated Life, may we support the consecrated women and men of the Church serving in the midst of violence, political unrest, and persecution so that they will be filled with hope and inspire hope in the people they serve.  We pray to the Lord.
  7. That we will observe Catholic Schools Week with gratitude for the men and women who work with great energy to educate the minds, hearts, and souls of the young people placed in their care. We pray to the Lord.
  8. That we will share the vision of Simeon and see the salvation offered to us by God through Jesus who is the light of revelation.  We pray to the Lord.
  9. That we will pray and fast as did Anna so that we may know Jesus better and speak of him by our lives to all who are in need of redemption.  We pray to the Lord.
  10. That the elderly will offer hope, encouragement, and faith to young families as Simeon and Anna did to the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.  We pray to the Lord.
  11. That those who are ill or worried about their future in these uncertain times will receive the grace to live with hope, confident in God’s love.  We pray to the Lord.
  12. That those who have died from the violence of drug wars, human trafficking, persecution, or ethnic hatred will be welcomed by all the saints and angels into the peace of heaven where they may rest in the arms of the Lord.  We pray to the Lord.

Heavenly Father, we humbly offer our petitions knowing that you will answer them in ways that best satisfy our needs.  We make these prayers through Christ our Lord.  Amen.
