Fifth Sunday of Lent, April 6, 2025
We offer our petitions to the Father seeking his compassion despite our faults and failings and for the remission of the evil the infects the world.
- That as no one was found to be free of sin and able to throw a stone at the adulterous woman, may the Church be humble in recognizing that we are all are sinful and thus devote our efforts to foster unity rather than create divisions. We pray to the Lord.
- That nations and people who hold grudges will remember not the events of the past nor consider the things of long ago, but will seek the Lord’s healing which will sustain them more than water in a desert or rivers in a wasteland. We pray to the Lord.
- That the wildfires that have driven thousands from their homes in South Korea will be well-contained, and that displaced communities may fully recover. We pray to the Lord.
- That obstacles to providing relief to Myanmar, one of the world’s poorest countries which has been devastated by an earthquake, will be overcome by committed relief efforts from wealthy nations as a testament to the value of each human life. We pray to the Lord.
- That we will not dwell on what lies behind but strain forward to what lies ahead able to pursue the goal, the prize of God’s upward calling, in Christ Jesus. We pray to the Lord.
- That we will avail ourselves to the great sacrament of Reconciliation to overcome our failings and sense of guilt so that we too may hear the words of Jesus, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on do not sin any more.” We pray to the Lord.
- That the policies of our government, and of every government, will recognize the necessity of promoting generosity over greed, life over death, peace over conflict, and humility over pride and power. We pray to the Lord.
- That the use of the new technologies will not replace human relationships, will respect the dignity of the person, and will help us face the crises of our times.[1] We pray to the Lord.
- That the sick will make prudent decisions seeking health, have access to good medical care, and will know the Lord’s presence and healing in all their trials and troubles. We pray to the Lord.
- That those who have died from violence, hunger, or natural disasters may find mercy and peace for all eternity with all the angels and saints. We pray to the Lord.
God, our Father, by coming to know our own faults during this Lenten season, may be become less judgmental and instead find your goodness and action in all that we encounter. We make these prayers through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
