Weekly Prayers of the Faithful

Sixth Sunday of Easter, May 25, 2025

Sixth Sunday of Easter, May 25, 2025

We offer our petitions with hope, not with troubled or afraid hearts, confident that the Father hears our prayers.

  1. That Pope Leo, the successor of St. Peter, may “[preserve] the rich heritage of the Christian faith” while “looking to the future to confront the questions, concerns, and challenges of today’s world.”[1]  We pray to the Lord.
  2. That the heart of the Gospel that is the love of God which makes all people brothers and sisters will prevail in the world so that every conflict may cease and peace may return.[2] We pray to the Lord.
  3. That in its evangelizing mission, the Church will not seek to “[capture] others by force, by religious propaganda, or my means of power [but], instead, … by loving as Jesus did.”[3]  We pray to the Lord.
  4. That in response to the promptings of the Holy Spirit, the Church will not place any burdens on those seeking full communion beyond those elements of faith that are necessities.  We pray to the Lord.
  5. That we will express our love for Jesus by our thoughts, our actions, and by keeping his word so that the Father and the Son may dwell within us.  We pray to the Lord.
  6. That those graduating from high school and college these weekends will strive to learn about truth throughout their lives and will know the presence of the Lord with them as they pursue their hopes and dreams.  We pray to the Lord.
  7. That leaders of nations will use their power, not for personal glorification or aggrandizement but to bring peace to Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, Ethiopia and other areas where conflicts destroy culture, bring suffering, and foster hatred between people.  We pray to the Lord.
  8. As we celebrate the 1700th anniversary of the opening of the Council of Nicaea this month, we ask that the Nicene Creed, the profession of our faith, may be a document that unites all Christians in faith.  We pray to the Lord.
  9. That the effects of the strong winds, heavy rains, and hot weather of summer will be mitigated by prudent planning and by care of individuals for their neighbors and community members.  We pray to the Lord.
  10. That those who are sick and in need of medical care will find treatment, medicines, and compassionate care that allows them to deal with their illnesses with courage and faith in God’s enduring love.  We pray to the Lord.
  11. That we will honor all those who sacrificed their lives in America’s wars this Memorial Day with thankful prayer and by resolving to act in our lives to reduce conflicts, mistrust, discord, and hatred and by cherishing the freedom that has been won for us.  We pray to the Lord.

God our Father, may your answer to our prayers strengthen us as we strive to do your will demonstrating our love for your Son through the inspiration and guidance of your most Holy Spirit.  We make these prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen.
