18th Sunday in Ordinary Time August 3, 2025
We turn to the Father asking for humility so that sorrow and grief will not be our occupation and
our minds may be ever at rest.
1.
That we will join with Pope Leo so that our Church will be a unified force for peace and
strong with our “heart[s] particularly close to all those who are suffering because of
conflicts and violence in the world.”
1
We pray to the Lord.
2.
That soldiers, military pilots, and government enforcers will be people of compassion,
hope, and mercy who seek ways to act on behalf of life, human dignity, and peace as they
sort through the difficult inconsistencies of their assignments and the call to serve. We
pray to the Lord.
3.
That in this Jubilee Year of Hope, we may truly know God as the “source of life that has
no ending” in whom we place our trust while on life’s path.
2
We pray to the Lord.
4.
That the rains of summer will be gentle and weather will be temperate so that farmers and
ranchers will have a bountiful harvest of crops, livestock will flourish, and the hungry will
be fed. We pray to the Lord.
5.
That the Jubilee of Youth will inspire young people from countries across the globe to
work with determination, faith, and hope to “be builders of bridges between generations,
cultures, and peoples.”
3
We pray to the Lord.
6.
That murder of individuals through active measures including bombing and executions
and passive measures that include starvation and denial of access to water will end
immediately through recognition that these are barbarous assaults on the dignity given all
human life by its Creator. We pray to the Lord.
7.
That those in power will know their responsibility is not to impose their will on others or
lord it over them but will understand that the purpose of authority is to provide humble
service that lifts up people in their brokenness. We pray to the Lord.
8.
That the use of food, water, and aid as weapons of war that cause the slow destruction of
life, dignity, and humanity will be roundly condemned in all quarters as vicious, inhuman,
and in violation of all measures of decency. We pray to the Lord.
9.
That all in our nation will reject narcissism, dishonesty, greed, cruelty, and violence so that
our country will be known for altruism, integrity, generosity, compassion, and peace as we
strive to build a better world for ourselves and for generations to follow. We pray to the
Lord.
10.
That those suffering from dementia and their families, friends, and caretakers will not lose
hope and will be given the graces of determination, patience, and tenderness as they live
through this difficult health challenge. We pray to the Lord.
11.
That those who have died from torture, malnourishment, or neglect may rest forever in the
peace of heaven. We pray to the Lord.

Quote from address of Pope Francis to Taize Youth (December 27, 2018).
Heavenly Father, though we cling to our own vanities, we ask that your answer to our pleas may
give us the grace to put to death those things that are earthly so that we may find renewal in the
image of our Creator. We make these prayers through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
