Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, August 15, 2025
We offer our prayers to the Father as we celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, asking for the grace to live with complete devotion to her Son.
- That bishops will embrace their offices as opportunities to be of service, to embrace Mary’s “Yes” to God’s call, and to be prophetic voices in our struggling world. We pray to the Lord.
- That the Almighty will cast down the mighty who advocate war from their thrones, lift up the lowly, and fill the hungry with good things so that faith, hope, and renewal may reach those driven from their homes by senseless violence. We pray to the Lord.
- That as Elizabeth was surprised and perplexed at Mary’s arrival at her home yet offered her welcome with great joy, may we welcome visitors and strangers who come to us — each made in the image and likeness of God. We pray to the Lord.
- That Mary will be known and revered as the Queen of Peace in troubled lands and may she bring the peace of her Son and the hope of a mother to all her suffering children. We pray to the Lord.
- May our souls be like Mary’s so that each day and in all our experiences we may proclaim the greatness of the Lord, and our spirits may rejoice in God who is our savior. We pray to the Lord.
- That each of us may hear the voice of the Lord and believe that what he speaks to us will be fulfilled if we have the courage to answer his call. We pray to the Lord.
- That Mary will be with all missionaries who travel to hill countries and distant lands bringing the message of Jesus to those in need of faith and love. We pray to the Lord.
- That the sick will be comforted through our prayers, our care for them, and our sharing in their challenges. We pray to the Lord.
- That those who have died will be welcomed into heaven to be with Mary and all the angels and saints through all eternity. We pray to the Lord.
O God, we ask that we may hear your answer to our prayers as we strive each day, despite the uncertainties we encounter, to see with eyes of faith as did Mary in answering her call to be the mother of your Son. We make these prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen.
