27th Sunday in Ordinary Time, October 5, 2025
God our Father, on this World Day of Migrants and Refugees we ask that all who journey in this world seeking peace and life may know the presence of the Spirit with them through your answer to our prayers.
- That bishops and all who minister in the Church will “walk alongside the people of God with a pastoral ministry that is supportive, empathetic, discreet, non-judgmental, and able to welcome everyone.”[1] We pray to the Lord.
- That politicians, diplomats, and all who engage in conflict will embrace and implement the simple message of Pope Leo, “There is no future based on violence, forced exile, or vengeance!”[2] We pray to the Lord.
- That refugees fleeing devastating conditions in their own countries will be protected from kidnappings, extortion, forced labor, and sexual violence as they travel through Mexico desperately seeking a better future.[3] We pray to the Lord.
- That “communities who welcome migrants and refugees will be a living witness to hope, where the dignity of all as children of God is recognized; and migrants and refugees are recognized as brothers and sisters, part of a family in which they can express their talents and participate fully in community life.”[4] We pray to the Lord.
- That during this month dedicated to the Holy Rosary, rosaries for peace will be recited and joined together as pleas for peace in war torn lands and in places where people are forced to endure “ruins wrought by murderous hatred.”[5] We pray to the Lord.
- That faith the size of a mustard seed will be planted in our children and families and grow so that seemingly insurmountable problems in life may be overcome through knowledge that God who is with us. We pray to the Lord.
- That in each moment of joy or sorrow, health or sickness, hopefulness or despair — whatever life brings us — we will cry out with the apostles, “Lord, increase our faith.” We pray to the Lord.
- That old men and old women shall again sit in the streets of cities and villages destroyed by armaments, and those streets shall be full of boys and girls playing and laughing, for there shall be a sowing of peace.[6] We pray to the Lord.
- For the satisfaction of the hunger and thirst for justice of peoples in so many countries where the condition of their lives is so inequitable and inhuman as to be unacceptable.[7] We pray to the Lord.
- That those who are ill or depressed may have hope that enables them to follow the Lord and know his presence with them in their suffering. We pray to the Lord.
- That those who have died will come into the presence of the Lord with thanksgiving and with joyful songs and psalms. We pray to the Lord.
God, our Father, we offer these prayers so that migrants, refugees, and all who travel the paths of this Earth may know the presence of your Holy Spirit that guides us all in right ways. We make these prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen.
