Weekly Prayers of the Faithful

28th Sunday in Ordinary Time, October 12, 2025

28th Sunday in Ordinary Time, October 12, 2025

Recognizing the many ills that infect our world, we turn to the Father to ask that he have pity on us and heal us.

  1. That “as a church, we [will] console and peacefully stand in solidarity with the undocumented men and women whose lives are being upended by the government’s campaign of fear and terror.”[1]  We pray to the Lord.
  2. That as the world makes note of the second anniversary of the October 7 attack on Israel and the subsequent war in Gaza, may we recognize that violence is not an action that serves the best interests of either side of a dispute.  We pray to the Lord.
  3. That we may know “Jesus’ Resurrection [as] a wonderful testimony to how love is capable of rising again after a great defeat in order to continue its unstoppable journey.”[2]  We pray to the Lord.
  4. That this Respect Life Month will engender understanding of the reasons to end abortions and the death penalty, confirm the dignity of those forced to become refugees, provide encouragement for those who struggle to overcome physical or mental challenges, foster compassionate care for the aging, and strengthen a commitment in each of us to honor all stages of human life.  We pray to the Lord.
  5. That we will respect and show gratitude to those who toil in the fields or tend to livestock as they carry out their tasks on our behalf and on behalf of a hungry world.  We pray to the Lord.
  6. That we will be given the grace to commit ourselves to an irreproachable way of life so that we will be able not only to punish evil, but to repair it.[3]  We pray to the Lord.
  7. That Catholics imprisoned for their faith in Belarus, Nicaragua, China, Pakistan and other nations where Christianity is feared and persecuted may remain faithful and receive support and justice for their plight from people of good will throughout the world.  We pray to the Lord.
  8. That the cries of the people in the Middle East may be transformed in moments of trial and tribulation into a trusting prayer and may God bless them and protect them from every evil.[4]  We pray to the Lord.
  9. That each day we will give thanks to God for the sun that rises, for morning and afternoon light, for the beauty of sunsets, for the stars in the sky at night, and for every blessing granted to us by His mercy.  We pray to the Lord.
  10. That those who are sick in mind, body, or spirit will cry out, “Jesus, Master! Have pity on me,” and receive healing, the consolation of knowing he is with them, and the faith to offer thanks for their lives.  We pray to the Lord.
  11. That those killed this past summer due to heavy rains, floods, fires, and wind will rest for all eternity in the peaceful and calming arms of God.  We pray to the Lord.

God, our Father, confident that you answer all our needs, we offer our thanks to you for the blessings we receive in answer to our prayers today and every day.  We make these prayers through Christ our Lord. Amen.
