Weekly Prayers of the Faithful

The Nativity of the Lord, December 25, 2025

The Nativity of the Lord, December 25, 2025

On this joyful day we recall the birth of Jesus, the Son of God, and rejoice that the Father has sent him into the world to guide us, and that he will come again.

  1. That as the glory of the Lord shines around us, we will not be afraid but will proclaim the good news of great joy that a savior has been born for each of us.  We pray to the Lord.
  2. Into the darkness of the divisions and wars in this world in which we walk, a light has shown.  May it bring us abundant joy and great rejoicing to all who suffer.  We pray to the Lord.
  3. That the grace of God that has appeared will save us and teach us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live temperately, justly, and devoutly in this age, eager to do what is good.  We pray to the Lord.
  4. That we may recognize the Word dwelling among us, see his glory as the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth, and open our hearts and minds to live according to his will.  We pray to the Lord.
  5. That the birth of each child will be an occasion of joy for parents, families, and communities as God reveals his love for humanity in the creation of new life.  We pray to the Lord.
  6. That the “profound longing for truth, for meaning, and for communion with others and with God” that all carry within their hearts may be nourished by the essential right that every individual has to religious freedom.[1]  We pray to the Lord.
  7. That we will know peace “not merely as the absence of conflict [but] a commitment to renounce pride and vindictiveness and to resist the temptation to use words as weapons.”[2] We pray to the Lord.
  8. That those who are ill and those who care for them will know that Jesus dwells in them lifting them up when they are fatigued or discouraged by the challenges they face.[3]  We pray to the Lord.
  9. That those who have died will be purified of their sins, be recipients of the saving power of God, and join the chorus of Alleluia in heaven for all eternity.  We pray to the Lord.

God, our Father, on this day we offer our petitions and also our prayers of praise and thanksgiving for the gift of your Son to our struggling world.  May we be people of hope who look to the light, your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen.
