Anthem for St. Isabel Church
Let us build a house
where evil dwells
And few will wish to be,
A place where
priests and minions tell
the people they should flee.
Built of hopes and dreams and visions,
Shattered with the worship space;
Here the office staff promotes divisions;
Some are welcome, few are welcome,
None are welcome in this place.
Let us build a house where money speaks,
And words are rarely true,
Where those are banned who dare to seek
Justice long since overdue.
Here the priest shall stand as witness
And a symbol of disgrace;
Here as he destroys the faith in Jesus:
Some are welcome, few are welcome,
None are welcome in this place.
Let us build a house where none are found
No one gathers here to meet:
The bishop’s guards in bullied tones
Tell the faithful to retreat.
Here the love of God, through Jesus,
Once revealed in time and space;
Is no longer found to be what pleases:
Some are welcome, few are welcome,
None are welcome in this place.
(Sung to the tune of “All Are Welcome” with apologies to Marty Haugen)
